During the week of February 12 to 16, eight engineers and agronomists from the Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC)<\/strong> conducted a training course on “Physiology of citrus fruits” taught remotely by the Permanent Training Center of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV)<\/strong> in collaboration with Fundaci\u00f3n Promoci\u00f3n Social<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The course on “Physiology of citrus fruits<\/em>” included issues such as: the plant, botanical and agronomic classification, soil, mineral nutrition and fertilization, budding and flowering techniques, fruit set and fruit development techniques, physiological alterations, and maturation and senescence techniques.<\/p>\n

The next training course on “Localized Irrigation of Citrus Crops<\/em>” will take place shortly, and will also be held remotely, because the Israeli authorities denied the corresponding exit requests for the Erez border crossing and for their transit territory to Jordan to be able to move to Valencia, while the Rafah border crossing that connects Gaza with Egypt remains closed despite the recurrent calls of the international community for its reopening.<\/p>\n

Both courses are carried out within the framework of the project “Improving food security in the Gaza Strip through the rehabilitation of agricultural land and greenhouses<\/a>” funded by the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA) under the concept of Training of Trainers, so that thus, the eight UAWC agronomist engineers and experts train the farmers of the Local Committees of the northern Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
