P. 3
PRESENTATION
Dear friends:
It makes me especially excited to address you to present the annual activities report and economic information for 2017, 30 years after the founding of the Foundation. A date that is undoubtedly very significant for all of us who are
part of this team, for all that it implies: greater experience, professionalization, and consolidation of our work, which supports us and pushes us to continue forward.
After this time, we wanted to tackle a great challenge: renew our corporate identity. Foundation for the Social Promotion of Culture is now Social Promotion Foundation. A change that does not obey a desire to break with the past, but rather to communicate clearly and concisely our activity that, throughout all these years, has been adapting to the needs that surround us,
but without ever losing our essence and objectives from the beginning: placing the person and their dignity at the center of our work and making it the protagonist of their own development.
This constant, present in all our lines
of action, is especially palpable in our cooperation projects for development. We continue to involve and train the communities and local organizations in all the activities we undertake. These,
in 2017, have had an impact on rural development in Palestine, Ethiopia or Peru, with important actions that help the correct management of water resources and agricultural development, and that in turn lead to an improvement in the food security of their populations. Health has also been a priority sector, especially in Ethiopia, training health personnel so that the service is of quality and offers greater guarantees, and trying to reduce the high mortality rate in the country.
Nor have we forgotten all those
who continue to suffer the tragic consequences of the war in Syria. In this sense, our uninterrupted humanitarian work since 2013 in favor of the refugee population in the Za’atari and Azraq refugee camps (Jordan) and in Lebanon, seeks to improve their quality of life, especially among people with disabilities. Likewise, one of the aspects that we have addressed in recent years has been the provision of health services and psychosocial support in Zahlé (Valley of the Bekaa of Lebanon), which in 2017 has been supported by the MADAD fund, for the next two years.
This humanitarian work has been complemented by two initiatives launched by our headquarters in Rome, “Stand Together” and “Humanity”, which with a marked awareness component try to favor actions in favor of refugees fleeing the war. Syrian and Iraqi and give voice to persecuted Christians.
I would also like to highlight our commitment to youth. Their integral formation, creating critical and supportive consciences is one of our founding objectives. Thus, in 2017 we launched
our Youth MUN Madrid project, a training experience, in which young people from Madrid carry out simulations of the United Nations (MUN models), representing UN member countries, to discuss, negotiate and find solutions to concrete problems that are part of the international agenda and the real challenges that humanity faces today.
I do not want to end without remembering that all our work is possible thanks to the support we receive from
all of you, funders, partners, donors, volunteers, and friends. You are a fundamental part of our history and that of so many people who need your help around the world. Let’s continue adding years together.
