Awareness sessions on the rights of persons with disabilities and inclusive activities in Jordan

On November 29th, within the “Protection and inclusive humanitarian assistance for Syrian Refugees and the most vulnerable Jordan population in the governorate of Madaba, Jordan” project, was performed in the Mleh Centre a new Awareness activity about the rights of people with disabilities. During the event were shown two videos, a first one about Paralympic athletes and how can we change our minds about people with disabilities by means of sports and personal growth; and a second one exhibiting an interview with the actor Abu Rafat. The event was attended by 172 persons (105 men and 67 women), being 82 Syrian refugees.

Later, on December 2nd, FPSC and AHS also hosted a new session in Mleh where 81 Jordans participated, most of them students from local schools that showed a great interest about participating, making this awareness session more interactive than the previous ones. Mahmoud, from the FPSC, made a briefing about the consortium, speaking about the AECID, the Spanish NGO being part of the consortium (FPSC, MPDL, APSC and RESCATE), its local partners and the services provided by each one to the Syrian refugees and the local community, encouraging guests to take with them pamphlets in case they wanted to get more information.  Right after that, he spoke about the rights of people with disabilities, and Mohammad Jerrar (AHS Team Leader), about the work of FPSC and AHS.

Straightaway, a very interactive and conciliatory debate was moderated, involving participants and encouraging them to ask questions or giving suggestions in case they wanted to.

On an adjacent room of the Mhele Charity Association, AHS made assessments to the beneficiaries identified during the Mleh November 29th awareness session.

What’s more, on December 1st was performed a new Awareness activity, with a theatrical representation by the Abu Rafat Company “Siria Tomorrow” in the Madaba Hasemite Hall, which was attended by 149 Syrians and 214 Jordans.

Also during the month of December, the FPSC has participated and organized inclusive events and against gender violence in Za’atari, as part of the celebration of the International Day of Disabled Persons, the International Human Rights Day and the campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence” sponsored by the UN.
