Chronicle of the representative of the FPSC in Asia on the Holy Father’s Francisco visit to Sri Lanka

Our representative in Asia, Carmen Alvarez makes a chronicle of the Holy Father’s visit to Colombo, which has been framed in his apostolic visit from 12 to 19 January 2015, to Sri Lanka and the Philippines as countries of destination.

The joy and unity among all races, cultures and religions, showing great respect and affection, in a country where diversity is one of the most characteristic features, has been one of the most important aspects in her chronicle.

Carmen Alvarez collected every moment of this trip, since the arrival of Pope Francisco to the airport, where the identity and exotic aspects of the island were given; The journey of more than two hours to the Nunciature; The interfaith ceremony held at the Exhibition and Congress Centre of the city (BMICH); The mass at Galle Face Green, with the canonization of Joseph Vaz on the 14; The visit to Madhu, a shrine of the Virgin in the north to whom the Tamils have special devotion; The blessing of the chapel of the newly constructed “Institute of Theological Studies Benedict XVI”; and finally, the farewell ceremony at the airport.

The brief but crucial visit of Pope Francis is summarized in a message of peace and unity: an appeal, especially for Catholics to overcome differences and enriched by diversity.
