Last October 21, Carmen Seoane, Technical of Projects and Jose Luis Zatarain, Director of Communications and Volunteer of the FPSC, gave a session on the situation of refugees in Syria and Iraq to the students of the  Inmaculada-Marillac School in Madrid.

These conferences are part of the activity of Development Education of the Foundation. The lectures were distributed in four sessions of one hour.

The students, more than 400, were studying 3rd and 4th grade of ESO and 1st and 2nd of High School.

The FPSC addressed different topics such as what is an NGO, what is the “solidarity” and the need to vary the look at people at risk of social exclusion, the ODS, voluntary activities and social action in Spain, with examples and images of the FPSC projects, the concept of development cooperation, explaining the fundamental role of local partners with examples of projects in different sectors in which the FPSC works, and finally the humanitarian aid concept.

The second part of the session focused on emergency projects that the Foundation develops in Lebanon and Jordan with Syrian refugees and in Iraq with Christian families fled from the plain of Nineveh and northern Iraq and moved to Baghdad. Refugee testimonies were offered, and encouraged those present to have a very open and supportive attitude in view of the imminent arrival of Syrian refugees to our country, urging them to cooperate with them, each to their extent possible.

The meeting was very active and with a very receptive attitude on the part of students.
