On Monday, November 11th, the Consul General of Jerusalem, Mr. Javier Gutiérrez; the General Coordinator of the Spanish Cooperation Office (OCE) in Jerusalem, Mr. Ventura Rodríguez; and Mr. Jesús Tomé, Head of Programs, visited the activities of the Convenio that we are developing in Palestine together with our local partners, PARC and RWDS, to promote green agriculture.
This convenio, funded by AECID, aims to develop inclusive and sustainable models that contribute to economic growth and the generation of employment opportunities for the rural population in the West Bank, with a special focus on women.
The visit began at the Qarawa Bani Zeid Women’s Club, run by our partner RWDS. There, visitors had the opportunity to meet several women who run a small business producing handmade cakes and sweets, as well as one of the participants in a training programme that started last October. This participant is currently at the club supporting the promotion of the products through her social media to reach a wider clientele.
The activity continued with a visit to the roads that are being rehabilitated in Jenin and Ramallah to improve access to agricultural resources, while reversing soil degradation and improving its quality. Ultimately, these works are expected to boost productivity and restore enviro mental functions.
Afterwards, all participants were able to visit the Bani Zeid Cooperative, where solar panels have been installed to support local oil production, and meet with the farmers who benefit from this initiative.
During the visit, the beneficiaries of the project expressed their deep gratitude to the OCE and the other agents involved (FPS and local partners) for the work that the convenio is providing. They also asked the Consul to convey their gratitude to the Spanish Government for its continued support and assistance to Palestine.
Finally, the day concluded with a follow-up meeting on the actions of the convenio in which, together with our local partners, we were able to share all the progress we have made and the next goals for which we continue to work.
