Since 2023, we have been working in Egypt on the development of a Convenio in Upper Egypt aimed at promoting sustainable economic and social alternatives in the tourism sector, with a particular focus on training women and young people to access employment opportunities. The agreement is funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and is being implemented in partnership with the CIDEAL Foundation and local partners, including the Association of Upper Egypt for Education and Development (AUEED), Enroot, and the Knowledge Economy Foundation (KEF).
As part of this initiative, on July 9, our Foundation and AUEED organized a coordination meeting with leaders from the Egyptian Ministry of Education. This session took place in Abo Korkas (Minya Governorate), where we officially presented the collaboration established with the Ministry to further support our Agreement and discussed the activities we will jointly implement moving forward.
Participants in the meeting included our Head of Mission in Egypt, Giacomo Crescenzi, AUEED President Wahid Nagib, the Head of the Central Administration for Community Participation, Randa Halawa, the Director of the Secondary Hotel Education Administration, Mohamed Hassan, the Director of the Community Participation Department, Mohamed Ibrahim, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Minya, Hamdy Mostafa.
Collaboration with the Ministry of Education
Thanks to the collaboration with the Ministry of Education, a new learning model will be implemented under the Agreement, allowing students from technical secondary hotel schools to receive practical training at the HTC Abo Korkas School.
A total of six schools from the governorate districts of Minya, Luxor, and Qena have been selected to participate in the project. From these schools, 225 students from technical secondary schools and 36 teachers will receive the necessary training provided by AUEED.
Through this training, both students and teachers will acquire social and general skills to lead and coordinate group meetings, as well as technical training in cooking with a particular focus on pastry and Italian cuisine. Additionally, this collaboration with the Ministry includes a cooking competition in which the top students from each school will participate.
Teacher training will begin in August, while student training is expected to start in September of this year.
During the meeting, a comprehensive action plan was also drafted to implement the most relevant activities resulting from this collaboration through the remainder of 2024.
