At Social Promotion Foundation we join the celebration of World Health Day.
This year the motto chosen by the United Nations is “Our planet, our health”. Drought, for example, in many places on the planet, is one of the factors that affects malnutrition in minors and pregnant and lactating women who need urgent nutritional support.
The creation of capacities among the vulnerable population of the Kaqchikel ethnic group in Joya Grande (Guatemala) aimed at improving their nutritional situation is the objective of the project that the Social Promotion Foundation is developing, together with its local partner FUDI, financed by the City Council of Madrid, in this country.
Other measures within the framework of the project are:
- The practice of Nutritional medical days where the anthropometric evaluation is carried out according to the age of the boys and girls for the adequate nutritional diagnosis.
- The organization of nutritional consultations where families are guided to improve nutritional habits, facilitating them with nutritional supplies and healthy recipes and stimuli are incorporated such as the delivery of a diploma to minors who have reached the appropriate weight and height for their age.
- Delivery of multivitamins to children under 5 years of age, through the nutritional interview and anthropometry, according to the age of the children to reduce chronic malnutrition. The different multivitamins contain minerals such as zinc that contribute to proper growth and development.
- The organization of training in health and nutrition, taking into account the topics of interest that the mothers indicated at the beginning of the project, where didactic material is delivered that allows reinforcing the topics learned.
- Holding early stimulation sessions.
- The organization of home visits for monitoring and follow-up of changes in health behavior, thus facilitating the follow-up of the recommendations made during the nutritional medical sessions and through the promotion of hygiene and health conditions for the prevention of diseases.
We share the testimony of Susi, Esther and Ericka Roxana, rights holders of the project about the impact of the project on their daily lives and that of their families:
