As every September 8, on the occasion of the NGO worker’s Day, and coinciding with the anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Millennium Declaration in 2000, from Social Promotion we join in the recognition of the valuable work that cooperators do , dedicating their time and skills to achieve a more just world for all.
On this day, we want to pay tribute to these authentic solidarity professionals, through this message from Gerard Poch, our Head of Mission in Ethiopia:
For Social Promotion Foundation, the work of our NGO workers, such as Gerard or Mayte Illán and Giacomo Crescenzi, Heads of Mission in Palestine and Egypt, respectively, is essential to guarantee the correct development of our projects, preserving the mission, vision and values of our organization.
With their help, currently, in Ethiopia, our efforts are aimed at ensuring the agricultural and livestock production of more than 10,000 vulnerable rural people in the Somali region who suffer from food insecurity problems for several months a year, and address the effects of climate change and natural disasters through the sustainable recovery of the local environment. Also to strengthen the resilience against COVID-19 of the rural population of 2 woredas of Oromia, paying special attention to access to water, agricultural development and the sustainable and participatory management of natural resources.
On the other hand, in Palestine, we work to promote labour rights and strengthen the associations of rural women in Jenin; favour the sustainable and equitable entrepreneurship of young people from Area C through the agribusiness sector; guarantee access and exercise of the human right to water in the Salfit Governorate; and improve the resilience and capacity building of vulnerable rural populations in the West Bank and Gaza so that they can have guaranteed access to the fulfilment of their rights.
Likewise, in Egypt, our objective is to promote micro-entrepreneurship, with priority in the tourism sector, of people in vulnerable situations in the Upper Egypt region, especially women and young people, including people with disabilities.
Like Gerard, Mayte and Giacomo, thousands of people work as aid workers around the world to promote development and eradicate poverty.
Our recognition today goes to all of them.
