On May 22, the Seminar “Alliance between international organizations and civil society“, organized by the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development), WFP (World Food Program) and the Forum of Catholic-inspired NGOs in Rome, of which the Social Promotion Foundation is a member, will be held at the University of LUMSA, which is also collaborating in the organization of this seminar. The meeting will be held at LUMSA University, which is also collaborating with the organization of this seminar.
The event will revolve around the need to foster a more intense and closer dialogue between the participating organizations (FAO, IFAD and WCO) and civil society, with the aim of fulfilling Pope Francis’ call “to promote each person and social agent so that they can assume their own role and contribute from their specificity to the common good” (Pope Francis. Meeting with civil society, Quito, June 7, 2015).
Thus, this seminar will present a space for analysis of the current social and political context, from which to promote the adoption of a cross-cutting, open and inclusive alliance that will reduce the distances that exist between civil society and UN organizations.
With this fundamental objective of responding to the urgent need to propose a dialogue between international organizations and civil society in order to achieve significant progress towards the common good, this meeting will also promote the strengthening of cooperation and the promotion of the principle of subsidiarity to re-establish links with territories and people.
