This project aims to contribute to food security and improve the nutrition of the K’iché ethnic population in 4 communities in the Department of Totonicapán, Guatemala, exacerbated by the effects of COVID-19, with special attention to children and women in nutritional vulnerability.
To achieve this, the project will focus on creating community structures and strengthening institutional capacities that contribute to the sustainability of results related to food availability, health, and nutritional well-being, especially for women and children.
Through the role of agricultural promoters, the project will develop comprehensive support activities aimed at diagnosing, recommending, updating, training, transferring, assisting, empowering, and generating skills in agricultural producers, fostering community value, natural resource care, and self-management skills.
Volunteer health promoters will acquire skills such as promoting hygiene habits, nutritional health, and effective preventive health practices.
Nutritional surveillance committees will be established to monitor cases of malnutrition identified in both children and pregnant women.
Working with women will strengthen their role in decision-making spaces, enhancing their potential.
