The tourism sector in Egypt has experienced a rapid recovery after the pandemic and requires efforts to resume its activity, consequently demanding qualified personnel, which is lacking due to gaps in access to training and other causes of exclusion for women and youth.
Under this premise, the Convenio, developed in collaboration with CIDEAL, aims to contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic growth and decent work through three major lines of action:
- Promoting training and employment opportunities in the tourism sector for women, youth, and students from technical hospitality secondary schools:
The training of women, youth, and students from technical hospitality secondary schools, along with the establishment of safe spaces for personal and professional growth, will develop professional skills that help reduce the opportunity gap and enable vulnerable individuals to gain productive access to the workforce, leading to their economic independence.
- Generating innovative and sustainable entrepreneurial opportunities in the tourism sector that can generate income:
The creation of new innovative and sustainable ventures focused on international tourism, highlighting the potential of rural areas in Aswan and Luxor, will have a community impact, laying the groundwork for a shift in mindset and knowledge exchange. Efforts will focus on promoting these ventures, strengthening the value chains connected to tourism opportunities, and consolidating knowledge, capacities, and interaction among local tourism and innovation actors.
- Boosting sustainable rural tourism in Upper Egypt with the participation of various institutions and leading companies in the sector, generating sufficient employment and resources:
Today’s and tomorrow’s qualified workers and entrepreneurs will be trained, ensuring sustainability through a process that offers guarantees of success and scalability. The goal is to consolidate spaces and local actors for the promotion of sustainable rural tourism in Upper Egypt, to increase and strengthen the knowledge, capacities, and interaction of local agents in tourism and innovation, as well as to enhance the position of the Abu Korkas tourist complex as a hub for rural tourism in Upper Egypt.
Thus, the Convenio has a multisectoral approach and aligns with some of the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, specifically with economic development, social justice, education, and training.
