Promoted the full exercise of rights for people with functional diversity and elderly people, Syrian refugees, and Jordanians

Despite being a country with a high Human Development Index, Jordan has several shortcomings, especially in its healthcare system, which has become even more compromised in recent years. The Syrian refugee crisis, coupled with the pandemic, has hindered the response capacity, affecting both the refugee and local populations.

For this reason, the next project by the Fundación Promoción Social, carried out in collaboration with Al Hussein Society (AHS), aims to increase the protection and the exercise of the right to health access for people with functional diversity and people in situations of extreme vulnerability, with special attention to the elderly, women, and minors who are victims of gender-based violence with functional diversity, in the Azraq refugee camp and host communities (Jordan).

Specifically, the project aims to achieve the following objectives by implementing the following activities:

  • Expand and strengthen the technical and human capacities of AHS to provide a specialized and adequate multidisciplinary response to vulnerable refugees and non-refugees.

To achieve this, the following is planned:

    • The creation of a referral system based on the CBID (Community-Based Inclusive Development) approach, which will refer people with functional diversity, the elderly, and victims of gender-based violence with functional diversity for evaluation.
    • The implementation of a case identification and assessment system.
    • The establishment of a workshop-classroom.
    • The development of a manual on the detection of cases of abuse and sexual violence in minors and women with functional diversity.
    • The training of AHS staff on methods of identifying and protecting against sexual abuse in minors and women with functional diversity.
    • The implementation of a monitoring, advisory, and support system for AHS staff to ensure the correct application of the knowledge acquired.
  • Increase the mobility and autonomy of people with functional diversity, the elderly, and victims of gender-based violence with functional diversity.

This objective includes the following activities:

    • Needs assessment, manufacturing, customization, maintenance, and provision of mobility aids at the AHS workshop in Amman.
    • Training on the correct use, maintenance, and repair of mobility aids for people with functional diversity, the elderly, and caregivers.
    • Conducting rehabilitation and psychosocial support sessions.
    • Training beneficiaries and their caregivers in basic rehabilitation techniques to improve their autonomy and well-being.

These actions will improve the mobility and autonomy of the individuals targeted by the project’s activities.
