Last Tuesday, October 6, the Swiss Ambassador to Jordan, Hans -Peter Lenz, paid a visit to the Za’atari refugee camp, which included in his agenda the physiotherapy clinic and rehabilitation of the FPSC.
The Ambassador met with Arabella Lawson, head of child protection and inclusive FPSC activities in Jordan and 4 volunteers who help the Foundation in its clinical activity and inclusive theatre for children in the refugee camp: Hamzeh, Yasin Qusay and Ra’fat, besides Abu Ziad, keeper of the clinic, which did a great job preparing all the space in advance.
Gavin, from UNHCR, and Arabella explained the ambassador the various activities that the FPSC has been developing since arriving in Za’atari. They presented, in detail, the population needs attended by the FPSC and the huge needs for the specialized services it offers. Furthermore, they explained the situation of need that there are in the country and the effects on the individual. The Ambassador, for his part, was interested in the volunteers, and the motivations that drive them to help the Foundation, especially without receiving financial compensation.
Hans-Peter Lenz explained that the specialized health services for people with disabilities do not constitute a priority area for funding from the Swiss government. However, he thanked all the information on the difficulties faced by this group, and although he did not promise anything, said he would inform the embassy about what he had seen and heard and advocate for greater support in this area.
