Working to ensure access to water resources in the Palestinian Territories

 

The FPSC’s expatriate team in Jerusalem participated with the technical team of PARC (Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees) in a field visit to identify sources to be rehabilitated this year under the agreement “Improved management of water resources in agriculture to ensure food security in the Palestinian Territories and Jordan ” financed by the AECID.

 

This action will be rehabilitated in the Palestinian Territories with two springs this year. These springs currently suffering the effects of pollution, which is one of the main environmental problems of the region. 

 

 

The following work will be undertaken:

  
• Cleaning the fountain area.
• Protection of the fence installation.
• Construction of a specific access to drink cattle.
• Control of water quality.
 

 These springs are located in the area of Ramallah and the Bethlehem area of the city and the northern city of Hebron.

 

After an upgrade of these two sources a total of 100 beneficiaries will be improved access to water resources. The rehabilitation will be enhanced with the construction of two water storage tanks with a total of 225m3. These tanks store water during summer will allow previously pumped in winter. 

 

It took this field trip to visit rehabilitate seven springs in the area of Beit Umar, located north of the city of Bethlehem. The FPSC team met with local authorities in the municipality of Beit Umar and participated in working sessions with various community associations.

 

 

They included a meeting in this town with a community association of women exposed very clearly the needs of water resources for agricultural use in this locality affected by the separation wall.
