Recognitions
In the month of May, during the ceremony to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Reina Sofía Foundation and the 10th anniversary of the Alzheimer Center Reina Sofía Foundation, Social Promotion Foundation, in the person of Macarena Cotelo, Member of the Boad of Trustee and Project Director of the Foundation, received from the hands of Her Majesty Queen Sofía a diploma recognizing the collaboration between both foundations, which began in 2008, having carried out projects in countries such as Peru, Jordan, Palestine, Paraguay, DR Congo and Spain, in diverse sectors such as education, people with disabilities, health and youth.
Likewise, in the month of November, Social Promotion Foundation, in the figure of its president, Jumana Trad, attended the lunch offered by S.M. the Kings of Spain in honor of the President of Palestine, Mahmud Abbas, at the Royal Palace. The invitation to the Foundation was recognition of their cooperation work and their presence in Palestine uninterruptedly for more than twenty years.
PROJECTS
Social Promotion Foundation has continued the humanitarian work that began in 2013, motivated by the Syrian war, lending its support to the refugee population and the vulnerable
host population, such as people with disabilities, with special attention to minors.
Its work in Jordan has been developed in the fields of Za’atari and Azraq and the governorate of Mafraq, Zarqa and Balqa, through personalized medical attention, distribution and maintenance of mobility aids (canes, crutches, chairs wheels, etc., and orthopedic devices); inclusive activities; and raising awareness about the reality and rights of people with disabilities.
In Lebanon, efforts have been made to provide psychological assistance, reduce the incidence of mental illnesses and improve the training and coordination of the actors involved in humanitarian aid within the framework of the primary health care services of the Lebanese public health system. Through the implantation of a clinic that provides service throughout the Bekaa Valley. This activity in 2018 will be reinforced by
the support of the General Directorate of Neighborhood
and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) of the European Commission, based on the general objective of the European Union Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (“MADAD Fund”) to respond to the “needs of Syrian refugees in neighboring countries, as well as the communities that host refugees and their administrations, particularly in terms of resilience and early recovery.”
