Rural areas training students raise awareness about the SDGs for boys and girls from 3 to 5 years of age in Arzúa

The EFA Piñeiral, Arzúa (La Coruña), is one of the seven EFAS from 6 autonomous communities that participates in the education Project for development “Objective 2030: EFAS for Sustainable Development”.

For this, a web portal, a didactic guide and materials to work in the classroom have been created, within the framework of the agreements that Social Promotion Foundation is currently developing in Ethiopia and Palestine, with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation. (AECID).

The objective is to generate in its students, in rural areas, interest, commitment and reflection on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and call for action to achieve a more just and sustainable world.

Students from the EFA Piñeiral have been involved in a local initiative linked to the existing SDGs in their municipality for the dissemination of the 2030 agenda, generating an impact among the little ones.

The EFA Piñeiral, located in Arzúa “Land of cheese” actively collaborates every year in the local Cheese Festival. It is a cultural festival that is already celebrating its 48th edition, taking care of highlighting the traditional cheeses of the area and Galician music and popular culture.

In this line and continuing with the Project “Objective 2030: EFAS for sustainable development” the students of the Higher Cycle of Early Childhood Education carried out different activities aimed at school children from 3 to 6 years of age in Arzúa schools.

The objectives of the activity were to raise awareness and training about the SDGs: zero hunger, health and well-being and responsible production and consumption.

The activities were carried out in schools in Arzúa with 120 boys and girls students aged 2, 4 and 5 years old.

All the activities were performed and thought by the students of the 1st year of the Higher Cycle of Early Childhood Education at EFA Piñeiral and the material used in the activities was made by reusing and recycling everyday materials.

The activities were designed with content adapted for the little ones, as an example, awareness was raised about the SDG – Sustainability, Life of terrestrial ecosystems -, through a “Puppet Session”, whose development addressed the “Pepe’s Story”, in which Galician customs and traditions were shown and where awareness was raised about the need to recycle, reuse and sustainability. The puppets were made with recycled material.

Some of the milestones in which the EFA Piñeiral de Arzúa had previously participated had been the creation of a core group, made up of several students and a teacher, who have played a leading role in reflecting on different SDGs, through the work in the classroom with the didactic sheets designed for it, and when it comes to energizing the EFA, the traveling exhibition on the 2030 Agenda, designed within the framework of the Project, which has been visiting the different EFAs in Granada, Badajoz, Zaragoza and Valencia..

Some of the FP students participated in two meetings in Madrid with young people from urban areas exchanging experiences and concerns about the SDGs.
