A new group of young professional women starts their volunteer activity of leisure and accompaniment with people with intellectual disabilities

Clara and Paola are two of the members of the new group of volunteers who began their voluntary activity of leisure and support, on January 20, at the Barajas Occupational Center.

This group of Social Promotion volunteers is made up of young professional women.

The activity in this Center during the weekends is very necessary.
The location of the Center, in a badly communicated area, makes it difficult for residents to go out in a more autonomous way.

Volunteers of Social Promotion, professional men, and women, between the ages of 23 and 35, have been volunteering for leisure and support for three years. The relationship with the residents is very close and everyone enjoys the activities that take place: board games if the weather does not accompany, outdoor sports, music, etc.

Clara and her group began their activity after an initial training that included their participation in the activity with other volunteers of Social Promotion more “veterans”; this has allowed increasing the frequency of the activity.

Clara tells us, after her first visit:

“We started the volunteer activity last Saturday; we arrived at 11 or 11:10.a.m. We were in the cafeteria with a group of approximately 15 people, all playing bingo, pachisi and other board games. Some of the volunteers and the residents went for a walk. The activity lasted until the aperitif time in the dining room. It was a very good experience, we were all very happy and we hope to see each other again … ”
