Eradicating violence against women is one of our priority goals in Ethiopia

Within the framework of the Agreement that we develop in the Somali region (Ethiopia) together with the NGO Rescate and our local partners Ethiopian Catholic Church Social and Development Commission (ECC-SDCO)-Harar and Horn of Africa Voluntary Youth Committee (HAVOYOCO), and that finances the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Foundation has joined the international campaign ’16 days of activism against gender violence ‘, which began on November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and has been extended until December 10, Human Rights Day.

In this way, the Foundation has participated in the communication campaign of the Spanish Cooperation Agency in Ethiopia on Twitter to highlight the work that Spanish NGOs carry out in the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls, making visible some specific activities that we develop for this purpose.

It has also organized an awareness campaign for the Hadew community, targeting harmful traditional practices and early marriage.

Thus, with the support of the Education Office of the South Jijiga woreda and the participation of two schools from two Kebeles in our intervention area, the Women’s Office and two Girls’ Clubs from the schools organized different activities with the support of our local counterpart to sensitize the participants and the attending public.

Traditional Somali dances together with different presentations on the need for the prevention and eradication of violence against women were carried out by the staff of the Women’s Office and the gender expert from the local counterpart.

The day had a great participation success, with the presence of more than 128 women and girls and 267 men and boys.

During the campaign, in addition, an environmental expert made a presentation on the need to take care of the environment, and everyone present helped to clean up garbage and plastic around the school.
