Improving food security in the Gaza Strip through the rehabilitation of agricultural land and greenhouses

At present, as a result of the political and economic instability of the area, it is impracticable for many rural families in the Gaza Strip to maintain their small and medium-sized production units because of the destruction of farmland and greenhouses and the rising costs.

Therefore, the project aims to promote inclusive and sustainable agricultural initiatives that reduce the vulnerability of these families and improve their quality of life. The aim is to increase productive capacity and improve the economic situation of farmers; and secure the food security and sovereignty of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, reducing their dependence on the Israeli economy.

For this, different activities are envisaged:

•    Rehabilitation and cultivation of 150 dunums (15 hectares) with citrus and olive trees, as well as vegetables and seedlings, and 50 greenhouses.
•    Training farmers on a needs and rights approach.
•    Creation of 1,600 work days to provide real job opportunities to 64 skilled and unskilled workers.
