Labor inclusion and entrepreneurship as tools for the economic empowerment of young women of Aymara origin in the metropolitan area of La Paz

This project’s main objective is to reduce poverty among young migrant women of Aymara origin in the Metropolitan Area of La Paz, Bolivia, who face multiple forms of vulnerability due to their gender, age, and ethnicity, exposing them to various forms of discrimination and social exclusion.

To address these inequalities, an intervention has been designed to strengthen their economic and social empowerment. The project includes comprehensive programs that provide training in business management, technical skills, and social skills aimed at improving their employability and facilitating their integration into the labor market. It also plans to support the creation and sustainability of microenterprises in the gastronomy sector, enabling the participating women to generate income independently and sustainably.

The project is structured around three main outcomes:

  1. Strengthening technical and business skills: Practical and theoretical vocational training will be offered, tailored to the needs of the local labor market. This includes developing skills in gastronomy and socio-emotional competencies, which are essential for the entrepreneurial and personal success of Aymara migrant women.
  2. Promotion of sustainable entrepreneurship: The project will promote the creation and consolidation of sustainable microenterprises in the gastronomy sector. The Get-Ahead methodology, designed to overcome traditional barriers in business training, will be implemented, specifically tailored to the needs of women with low literacy levels. Strategic partnerships with financial institutions will be established to facilitate access to microcredits and other resources necessary for the growth of these businesses.
  3. Promotion of decent and safe work: A collaboration platform will be established with public and private actors to improve working conditions and promote gender equality in the gastronomy labor market. An employment pool will be developed to ensure safe working environments that respect the labor rights of migrant women. This includes implementing protocols against sexual harassment and discrimination in partnering companies, thus ensuring a safe and fair working environment.
