Last Monday, July 24, as part of the festivities of this town, the City of San Pol de Mar organized a charitable dinner to support the humanitarian aid projects FPSC is currently implementing in Jordan and Lebanon.
Following the outbreak of the war in Syria in March 2011, FPSC launched its humanitarian work to try to save lives, reduce suffering and preserve the dignity of people affected by the conflict, especially in neighboring countries, Jordan and Lebanon.
FPSC’s humanitarian aid work in Jordan began in 2013. It is currently working in the country’s two largest refugee camps, Za’atari (80,000 refugees) and Azraq (53,000 refugees), and in the host communities of the Jordanian country with refugee population and vulnerable local population. Special attention is given to persons with disabilities, women and children, through physiotherapy sessions and a rehabilitation clinic, that provides personalized medical care and distribution and maintenance of mobility aids (walking sticks, crutches, wheelchairs and orthopedic devices). In addition, FPSC implements an inclusive program of psychosocial support with inclusive activities and sensitization about the reality and the rights of persons with disabilities.
Furthermore, FPSC has been working in Lebanon with the Lebanese Ministry of Health since 2015 to include mental health care in public health policies. To this end, the first community mental health center in the country to offer free psychiatric and psycological treatment to Lebanese and Syrian people is now a reality.
These actions are meant to help refugees and vulnerable local population to feel part of the community, face their fears and problems, develop and live in accordance with their human dignity despite of the dire circumstances they are in.
FPSC sincerely appreciates the presence and support of all the people who participated in this fundraising dinner, and all the organizers that made it possible. This initiative and support are not only important for the sustainability of the projects, but also a great incentive for the Foundation to continue with our work and try and improve the living conditions of those who need it most.
