Representatives of the Spanish Cooperation Office (OCE) of the AECID in Jerusalem have visited the activities of the education and training Project that we develop in East Jerusalem, in collaboration with our local partners the Agricultural Development Association (PARC) and The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and with the financial support of the AECID.
East Jerusalem is one of the areas with the fewest development opportunities for the Palestinian population. It has the lowest unemployment rate in the West Bank (6.5%) and, however, also the lowest labour participation rate (35.9%). In this scenario, our Project aims to provide an opportunity for young people in the region to train and acquire quality professional skills that will allow them to access a decent and sustainable job.
In this context, AECID representatives were able to visit the vocational training center where the activities of the project are carried out, which includes facilities such as a greenhouse and workshops on modern agriculture.
In addition, this center hosts working sessions with both technical staff and local partners, as well as discussion groups with the young entrepreneurs who benefit from the initiative. They have also been able to visit the demonstration station and the headquarters of The Lutheran World Federation.
Throughout the visit, the field technicians explained the different training sessions that take place at the facilities, as well as the transmission of specific data on the 157 beneficiaries of the project, most of whom are women from regions such as Beit Hanina, the Old City, Silwan, among many others.
This Project is part of our efforts and commitment to promote sustainable development and improve the living conditions of the region’s inhabitants through training and education in real quality skills.
