As part of the project we are implementing in Jordan to promote the protection and right to healthcare for people with disabilities in situations of extreme vulnerability in the Azraq refugee camp, we held a training workshop for professionals from Al Hussein Society (AHS), our local partner. In addition, it is worth noting that the recently developed ‘Manual for the prevention of gender violence against people with disabilities’ has been taken as a reference.p was held for professionals from Al Hussein Society (AHS), our local partner.
Thus, from February 9 to 13, these professionals received training on identifying and protecting minors and women with disabilities from abuse, both in the refugee camp and in host communities. Led by ONG RESCATE, our partner in this project funded by the Generalitat Valenciana, the workshop took place at the AHS headquarters.
Over the five-day training, AHS staff enhanced their skills and knowledge to identify cases of abuse and refer them to the appropriate services when necessary. Additionally, the newly developed ‘Manual for the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence Against People with Disabilities’ served as a key reference throughout the training.
A guide to preventing gender-based violence
This manual was designed to guide the AHS team and strengthen their ability to detect and refer cases of sexual abuse in the Azraq refugee camp and nearby host communities.
This manual integrates international standards with Jordanian legal frameworks, providing practical and culturally relevant tools for frontline workers. It details the various forms of abuse and violence, early warning signs, and referral protocols to connect victims with the right support services.
