9 years since the Syrian conflict started

Since March 2011, Syria has suffered the horrors of war. According to UN Secretary António Guterres, millions of civilians continue to experience difficulties concerning their protection, more than half of the population has been forced to flee their homes, with millions of them living in precarious conditions as refugees, and 11 million people who still need humanitarian assistance to save their lives.

“We have seen nine years of horrific atrocities, including war crimes. Nine years of human rights abuses on a massive and systematic scale, eroding international norms to new depths of cruelty and suffering. Tens of thousands are missing, disappeared, detained, subjected to ill-treatment and torture. Untold numbers have been killed and injured. There must be no impunity for such horrific crimes.” Guterres said in a statement on the anniversary of the conflict in the Arab country.

In this context, the Social Promotion Foundation began its humanitarian work in 2013, in the host communities of both Jordan and Lebanon, with the triple objective of saving lives, alleviating suffering and safeguarding human dignity.

In this context, the Social Promotion Foundation began its humanitarian work in 2013, in the host communities of both Jordan and Lebanon, with the triple objective of saving lives, alleviating suffering and safeguarding human dignity.

Currently, the Foundation’s humanitarian activity is carried out in Lebanon, with the execution of a project financed by the Directorate-General for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) of the European Commission. This is in line to the general purpose of the European Union Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian crisis (“MADAD Fund”) to ensure the “Syrian refugees’ needs in neighbouring countries, as well as the communities hosting the refugees and their administrations, particularly with regard to resilience and early recovery.”

The consortium carried out along with International Medical Corps UK (IMC) is a project that has been a new component of the recently completed project “MADAD-REBAHS (Reducing Economic Barriers to Accessing Health Services) in Lebanon, to try to improve access and quality of health services, focused on people with disabilities.

Furthermore, Social Promotion maintains a permanent campaign for the sustainability of its humanitarian work and to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the Syrian war.
