REBUILDING OF THE BEIRUT’S SAINT MICHAEL, SAINT ANTHONY AND SAINT JOSEPH CHURCHES

Help us to rebuild the churches of St. Michael, St. Anthony and St. Joseph in Beirut, which were seriously damaged after the explosion on 4 August in the Lebanese capital, as they are located in the Christian area of the city, the most affected due to their proximity to the port.

For more than 150 years, these three churches have played an essential role in serving the community and promoting the Catholic faith in Lebanon.

Their reconstruction is very urgent in order to resume quickly and completely this important work, which is vital at this time of extreme need, in a context of economic crisis and pandemic, and to help to maintain the balance and coexistence between people of different faiths.

Lebanon is the cradle of different cultures, a place of tolerance, respect and coexistence, unique in the region. The Catholic Church has also played a crucial role in promoting social action in the country and throughout the Middle East.

The explosion on 4 August in Beirut has worsened the already fragile situation in Lebanon, which is facing a serious economic crisis and political turmoil, all aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The deflagration has seriously damaged the structure of many Christian churches, a meeting place for their communities and a help centre for families in vulnerable situations, affecting their daily activity and service to society.

St. Michael and St. Anthony, belonging to the Maronite Archdiocese of Beirut, and St. Joseph, of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, have suffered significant damage and need urgent help to rebuild and quickly and fully resume their vital work in this moment of extreme need.
