Once again, on September 8, the Social Promotion Foundation joins in celebrating the Day of Cooperating Persons to commemorate and pay tribute to the fundamental work of professionals who fight for social justice, sustainable development and the eradication of poverty in the most disadvantaged places in the world.
On the occasion of this day, Yacoub Tahhan, our Head of Mission in Jerusalem, shares his experience of working in Palestine. The current working conditions for aid workers in this territory are made more difficult by the conflict in Gaza. Therefore, their contribution is more important than ever in the fight for a more hopeful and fair future for the most vulnerable people who are also suffering from the war.
In this context of war, our work and commitment to Palestine has not only been maintained but has been strengthened. An example of this is the campaign ‘SOS: Rebuild hope in Gaza’, through which we work for the reconstruction of the Holy Family School, which is serving as a refuge for minorities suffering the consequences of the war and whose facilities have also been seriously damaged as a result of various attacks and bombings.
Our professionals
Today we would especially like to acknowledge and thank the work of our expatriate colleagues, Giacomo, Delphine, Alejandro, Yacoub, Sergio and Gerard, who with their tireless work and commitment work for peace and a more just world through the projects that our Foundation develops in the following countries:
- Egypt: where we work through an agreement to promote sustainable economic and social alternatives in the tourism sector, especially supporting women.
- Lebanon: where we promote economic strengthening and social stability of vulnerable and displaced local communities in the south of the country through an agreement.
- In addition, we carry out a continuing education Project aimed at women, so that they can work as peace mediators in the Kererouan area.
- Jordan: where we promote the resilience of women and young people in the face of poverty and their role in achieving a violence-free economic recovery through the development of a Project. We are also carrying out another initiative through which we support the full exercise of rights of people with functional diversity and the elderly, Syrian and Jordanian refugees.
- Palestine: where we are developing an agreement to promote green agriculture through inclusive and sustainable models that contribute to economic and rural growth. In addition, we are implementing three other Projects with the objectives of strengthening women’s resilience to the chronic humanitarian crisis in the West Bank, supporting the women’s cooperative platform in Jenin Governorate, and facilitating quality vocational training, employability and sustainable entrepreneurship for young people in East Jerusalem.
- Ethiopia: where we work through an agreement to strengthen the livelihoods of Somali agropastoral communities and build resilience to climate change.
On behalf of the entire team at our Foundation, Happy International Volunteer Day!
